Some LGUs, Schools Shift to Online Classes Amid March 26 Transport Strike

MANILA, Philippines — Several local government units (LGUs) and educational institutions have moved classes online for Thursday, March 26, in response to a nationwide transport strike affecting public commuting services across the country.

The transport strike, organized by various transport groups calling attention to rising oil prices and other concerns, is expected to disrupt normal operations and limit public transportation availability in Metro Manila and other regions on March 26 and 27.

In anticipation of the disruption, some LGUs decided to shift from face‑to‑face instruction to online classes for the day to ensure that students can continue learning without facing commuting challenges. Educational institutions that announced the shift are implementing remote learning via digital platforms so that studies remain uninterrupted despite limited transport options.

The moves come as a precaution to ease the impact of reduced transport availability on students and school personnel who rely on public vehicles to get to campuses. Adjustments to work arrangements, including remote work for staff or online class delivery, are part of efforts to maintain continuity of operations amid the strike.

Authorities and school officials are encouraging students and parents to monitor official announcements from their respective LGUs or schools for updates on class schedules and learning arrangements for the remainder of the strike period.
