MANILA, Philippines — The Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) along with a trough of low pressure is forecast to bring moderate to heavy rains over several parts of the Philippines in the coming days, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Wednesday.
According to the weather bureau, the combined effect of Amihan winds and the trough will enhance cloud formation and rainfall, particularly over Luzon, Visayas, and parts of Mindanao. Areas likely to experience scattered to widespread rain showers and thunderstorms include Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol, Western Visayas, and Northern Mindanao.
Moderate to heavy rainfall may lead to flooding in low‑lying and poor drainage areas, as well as landslides in upland communities. Residents in these vulnerable areas were advised to remain vigilant and monitor local weather updates, especially those living near rivers and slopes.
PAGASA also noted that the Amihan winds will bring cooler temperatures over eastern and northern parts of the country, although rainy conditions may cause local disruptions in daily activities, especially for commuters.
The weather agency cautioned that conditions could deteriorate rapidly in areas with persistent downpours and encouraged the public to prepare emergency kits and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain.
