The Makabayan bloc is increasing political pressure on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte. Progressive lawmakers have publicly released their Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs), urging both Marcos and Duterte to do the same in the interest of transparency.
This initiative is part of a broader push for accountability. Makabayan has also started a signature drive among lawmakers to support an impeachment complaint against Duterte, citing alleged misuse of public funds.
The group’s message is clear: corruption at the highest levels must be addressed. Makabayan is calling not just for criticism, but for institutional reforms, insisting that elected officials adhere to the same standards they promise to uphold for the Filipino people.
