Quezon City Named UNESCO Pilot Media and Information Literacy City

Quezon City has been designated as one of the pilot Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Cities in collaboration with UNESCO, recognizing the city’s commitment to fostering critical thinking, digital literacy, and responsible citizenship.

Mayor Joy Belmonte said the recognition complements the city’s broader education agenda, which prioritizes foundational learning and supports initiatives in public schools and libraries. The designation allows the city to join a global network of local governments working to integrate media literacy into education, culture, and governance.

As part of the initiative, the city is launching debate competitions in public schools, expanding digital accessibility features for persons with disabilities, and investing in programs that encourage residents to question information, seek truth, and engage meaningfully in civic life.
