Michael “Mikee” Romero, former Deputy Speaker and veteran legislator, has been honored with the 2025 Philippine Choice Award for his outstanding humanitarian and community service. The award recognises his nearly decade-long efforts to reach underserved and remote Filipino communities—from Basco, Batanes in the north to Tawi‑Tawi in the south—with healthcare missions, educational support, and disaster-relief outreach.
Romero has led and funded wide-ranging initiatives, including medical and dental missions, free surgeries, donation of equipment, classroom rehabilitation, scholarship programs, and supply kits for families in isolated areas. He said that “service to the poor and forgotten is the highest honour anyone can have” as he accepted the award.
The accolade affirms Romero’s commitment to humanitarian leadership beyond his congressional tenure, highlighting his role in strengthening healthcare access, advancing education, and supporting disaster-affected populations across the Philippines.
