The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has suspended foreign travel for local executives nationwide as part of wider efforts to focus government resources on preparations for Severe Tropical Storm Uwan. This administrative measure is designed to ensure local officials remain in their jurisdictions to oversee readiness operations, monitor alerts and respond to emergencies.
Under the directive, local government units are instructed to re‑prioritise their officials’ duties toward storm preparedness—such as evacuation planning, rescue‑team staging, and coordination with national agencies. Travel authorisations for non‑essential foreign trips have been revoked or postponed until further notice. The move reflects the heightened urgency as Uwan edges closer, bringing possible heavy rains, winds and coastal hazards.
The DILG emphasised that ensuring the safety of citizens and protecting critical infrastructure must take precedence during this crisis. The agency urged local leaders to be “on‑call” and accessible, to effectively manage disaster risks and to safeguard public welfare.
