As the Philippines once again braces for major storms, Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez of Leyte reminded the nation that the lessons from Super Typhoon Yolanda still resonate strongly. He emphasized that while we cannot prevent disasters, we can prepare ourselves—with unity, compassion, and shared responsibility.
Romualdez recalled that the devastation wrought by Yolanda served as a turning point for how communities, government agencies, and civil society approach disaster‑risk management. He stressed that early warnings, evacuation plans, and strong community networks are essential—not optional. He also underscored that preparedness isn’t only the duty of the government, but of every Filipino.
In his message, he honoured the lives lost and the sacrifices made, urging citizens to carry forward the legacy of resilience. “May the memory of those we lost guide us toward unity and prudent action,” Romualdez said, as he called on everyone to stay alert and cooperative in facing the threat of upcoming storms.
