Typhoon Uwan has surged in strength and is moving closer to the Philippines’ eastern seaboard, prompting the national weather agency to raise Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 in key areas, including several provinces in the Bicol region.
At its last advisory, the typhoon was located approximately 195 kilometres east of Catanduanes, with sustained winds of around 175 km/h and gusts reaching up to 215 km/h.
Under Wind Signal 4, residents in the affected regions should expect typhoon‑force winds of 118 to 184 km/h within the next 12 hours. Authorities warn of significant threats to life and property, particularly in coastal and exposed upland areas.
Local governments have begun evacuation and hazard-preparedness measures. Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects, suspend at‑sea travel, and prepare evacuation centres, as landfall is projected to occur soon in the Bicol region before the typhoon moves across northern Luzon.
