DOH: No Planned Lockdown Despite Rise in Influenza-Like Illnesses

The Department of Health (DOH) assured the public that there are no plans to impose a lockdown despite the increasing number of influenza-like illnesses (ILI) across the country.

Health Secretary Ted Herbosa said the situation remains under control and that the spike in cases is typical during the rainy season. He emphasized that hospitals are managing well and there’s no indication that stricter health restrictions are needed.

Herbosa added that the DOH continues to monitor trends closely while reminding the public to take preventive measures such as wearing masks in crowded areas, frequent handwashing, and getting flu vaccinations.

He also encouraged those experiencing symptoms like fever, cough, or sore throat to seek medical attention early and stay home to prevent further spread of the illness.

While the DOH is not downplaying the rise in ILI cases, Herbosa said the agency is confident that current public health systems can handle the situation without resorting to drastic measures.
