Families of SCTEX Crash Victims Demand P130M in Damages from Solid North Bus Firm

The families of those killed in the tragic Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) crash are seeking a combined P130 million in damages from the bus company involved, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

Transport Secretary Vince Dizon personally joined the family of victims Jonjon and Daina Janica Alinas in filing a civil case at the Quezon City Hall of Justice. The family is asking for P50 million in compensation, covering wrongful death, loss of income, and moral and exemplary damages.

In a separate case filed in Antipolo City, other families of the deceased are demanding an additional P80 million in damages.

The deadly May 1 accident at the SCTEX Tarlac toll plaza claimed ten lives—including four children—and injured over 37 people.

Following the crash, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) suspended the operations of Pangasinan Solid North Transit Inc. for 30 days. The bus company said it complied with the directive and acknowledged the gravity of the incident, describing it as an “isolated case” caused by uncontrollable factors.

Although the driver tested negative for alcohol and drugs, the families are pursuing civil remedies while investigations continue.
