Alden Richards Opens Up About His Darkest Year: “That Was Depression, at Its Finest”

Behind Alden Richards’ ever-present smile and success on screen was a hidden struggle that few ever saw. In a rare, deeply emotional interview with GMA Integrated News, Alden revealed that 2024 marked the lowest point of his life—a time when he felt utterly lost despite his rising fame.

The interview, originally intended to promote Stars On The Floor, unexpectedly turned into a candid confession. “If there’s anything worse than rock bottom, I was there,” he admitted, reflecting on the emotional toll of giving too much to others and neglecting his own needs.

The death of his grandfather in January was the final blow. “It took me six months to get over that. It wasn’t clinically diagnosed, but that was depression,” he said.

Alden described how overwhelming thoughts clouded his mind, making it hard to appreciate the love around him. “You’re present, but you’re not really here,” he explained.

Once hesitant to share his vulnerabilities, Alden now speaks openly. His journey of healing began with fitness—first running, then biking. These activities have become his way of reconnecting with himself. “It’s all about self-love now,” he said.

When asked about his love life, Alden challenged the notion that happiness must be defined by romance. “This is my story. I’m done trying to meet other people’s expectations,” he said with conviction.

As he steps into a new role hosting Stars On The Floor, Alden isn’t just returning to the limelight—he’s reclaiming his life, showing that real courage lies in acknowledging the darkness and choosing to rise from it.
