US Treasury Chief Scott Bessent: ‘Substantial Progress’ Made in China Trade Talks

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that meaningful progress has been made in trade negotiations with China, following discussions with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng in Geneva.

“We’ve achieved substantial progress in these very important trade talks,” Bessent told reporters on Sunday, adding that more specific details will be shared on Monday. He confirmed that President Donald Trump has already been briefed on the developments.

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, who also attended the negotiations, noted that the gap between the two sides is narrower than previously believed.

The high-level discussions continued into a second day, aiming to ease tensions in a trade war that has posed significant risks to the global economy.
