Actress and comedian Rufa Mae Quinto is celebrating her legal victory after the court officially dismissed the securities violation complaint filed against her in connection with the now-controversial skincare company Dermacare.
The case, which alleged that Quinto’s endorsement of Dermacare was tied to an investment scam, was quashed by the Pasay Regional Trial Court on April 24. Her lawyer, Mary Louise Reyes, confirmed the dismissal in an Instagram post on May 3, expressing gratitude to supporters who stood by Quinto during the ordeal.
Reyes clarified that the case was dismissed “without prejudice” due to a legal technicality under the principle of primary jurisdiction. This means the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), not the courts, has the proper authority to first investigate such allegations. Reyes said Quinto is prepared to fully cooperate should any future complaints be filed appropriately through the SEC.
Visibly elated, Quinto took to Instagram to express her relief: “Na-quash na case! I’m free as a kite! Malayang-malaya! To GOD be the GO GO GLORY!” She also hinted at a new project, saying she’s prepping for something “big” and even treated herself to a visit at an aesthetic clinic.
Earlier this year, Quinto surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation after a warrant was issued. She posted a P1.7 million bail for her temporary release. Fellow celebrity Neri Naig, also linked to Dermacare, had similar charges dismissed in March due to lack of probable cause.
