PH, US Marines Launch MAREX 2025 in Maguindanao del Norte to Boost Interoperability


The Philippine Marine Corps and United States Marine Corps officially began Marine Exercise 2025 (MAREX 25) with a ceremonial opening at Camp Iranun, Maguindanao del Norte, on Monday.

Running from March 31 to April 11, this joint drill marks the second MAREX to be held in Central Mindanao and is part of the broader PH-US Mutual Defense Board–Security Engagement Board (MDB-SEB) framework.

The exercise is focused on enhancing coordination and operational readiness between both forces through key training activities, including:

  • Maritime security operations
  • Amphibious assaults
  • Mechanized infantry tactics
  • Littoral live-fire drills
  • Special operations, including surface force insertions

USMC’s Captain Carter J. Collins underscored the value of shared training in boosting regional stability and combat preparedness. Meanwhile, Brigadier General Romulo Quemado II, commander of the 1st Marine Brigade, expressed optimism about strengthening defense partnerships and response capabilities through this collaboration.

In addition to tactical drills, the exercise also covers:

  • Tactical Combat Casualty Care
  • Urban and Jungle Warfare
  • Logistics Management
  • Marksmanship
  • Mission Planning

Beyond combat readiness, MAREX 25 will feature community outreach and humanitarian activities, fostering stronger connections with local communities.
