SM Megamall Fires Security Guard in Viral Incident with Sampaguita Vendor

SM Megamall has terminated a security guard caught on video kicking a young sampaguita vendor and destroying her flower bundles outside the mall.

In a statement released on Thursday, SM Megamall expressed regret over the incident, which has drawn widespread criticism online.

“We regret and sympathize with the young girl who experienced an unfortunate incident outside our mall,” the statement read. “We strongly condemn the act committed against her. The security guard has been dismissed and will no longer be allowed to service any of our malls.”

Incident Details

The viral video shows the security guard arguing with a young girl in a school uniform selling sampaguita. The altercation escalated when the guard destroyed her flower bundles, prompting the girl to hit him with the damaged flowers. The guard retaliated physically, sparking outrage among viewers.

Investigation Underway

The Philippine National Police – Civil Security Group (PNP-CSG) is conducting an administrative investigation through its Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies (SOSIA).

“SOSIA is currently conducting an administrative investigation into the liabilities of the guard and his agency,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Eudisan Gultiano, CSG public information office chief.

Gultiano assured the public that the investigation would be handled fairly and swiftly.

SM Megamall reiterated its commitment to inclusivity and condemned the incident, emphasizing its dedication to creating a safe and welcoming environment. The mall also called on its security agency to ensure proper conduct and prevent similar incidents in the future.
