Over October’s Josh Buizon Reflects on Life-Changing Week: Hospitalization and Engagement

Josh Buizon, lead vocalist of indie band Over October, ended 2024 with a whirlwind of events that he described as straight out of a movie. Buizon revealed on Instagram that he experienced a near-fatal vehicular accident on Christmas Day and proposed to his long-time girlfriend, Thea, just days later on New Year’s Eve.

A Close Call

On Christmas Day, Buizon was involved in a highway accident that left him hospitalized with severe injuries, including a fractured wrist, lung damage, and multiple bruises.

“I almost died on Christmas Day. I fractured my left wrist in 13 places, injured my lungs, and suffered sprains, scratches, and bruises,” Buizon shared.

Despite the traumatic event, the musician expressed deep gratitude to his family and doctors for aiding his recovery.

A Proposal Against the Odds

Buizon had initially planned to propose to Thea on Christmas Eve, but his accident forced a change in plans. After undergoing surgery and receiving a “second chance at life,” he made his heartfelt proposal upon his discharge from the hospital on New Year’s Eve.

“God made it all work out. He gave me a second chance at life… That same night, I got to propose to Thea,” Buizon wrote.

Thea said yes, and the moment was immortalized on social media with photos of the couple and a stunning princess-cut engagement ring.

“From Tragedy to Forever”

Reflecting on the rollercoaster week, Buizon wrote:

“From tragedy to the happiest moment of my life, my last week of 2024 felt like a movie. I nearly lost everything, but instead, I gained forever.”

He humorously added his New Year’s resolution: “pay medical bills.”

Over October and Beyond

Buizon’s band, Over October, is known for hits like “Kaakit-akit,” “Ating Dalawa,” and “Intertwine.” The five-piece indie and alternative rock act includes members Joshua Caleb Lua, Joric Canlas, Anton Rodriguez, and Janessa Geronimo.

As Buizon kicks off 2025 with his fiancée by his side, fans and peers, including Paolo Sandejas and Ella Pangilinan, have poured in their congratulations.
