The Department of Health (DOH) has refuted social media rumors about a supposed “international health concern” involving a surge of cases in China linked to influenza A, HMPV, mycoplasma pneumoniae, and COVID-19.
In a statement released Friday, the DOH clarified that no reliable sources, including the World Health Organization (WHO), have confirmed such reports.
“Reliable sources of information currently do not support circulating social media posts about an alleged international health concern,” the statement read.
Chinese Embassy Denies Rumors
The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines has also labeled the circulating posts as “fake news,” further dismissing the allegations.
Disease Surveillance in Place
The DOH reassured the public that the Philippines’ disease surveillance systems are fully operational and actively monitor international health developments through its membership in the WHO’s International Health Regulations (IHR) network.
“The disease surveillance systems of the Philippines are in place and functioning. DOH is actively verifying all information, and we will keep the public updated,” it stated.
A Call Against Misinformation
To prevent panic and confusion, the DOH urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified information from questionable sources.
“Let’s not spread misinformation and confusion,” the department emphasized.
The agency vowed to keep Filipinos informed as it continues to verify updates on international health concerns.
