Maris Racal’s Film ‘Sunshine’ to Tour International Festivals Before Philippine Release

After its successful debut at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Maris Racal’s film Sunshine, directed by Antoinette Jadaone, will continue its international festival run before premiering in the Philippines. Sunshine follows the journey of a young rhythmic gymnast, portrayed by Racal, who faces a life-changing decision when she learns she is pregnant at the peak of her career.

Director Jadaone shared that the film’s strategy is to reach a broader international audience first, though specific festival locations have not been disclosed. She expressed delight at the film’s sold-out screenings at TIFF, which featured a diverse audience, including many non-Filipinos who were moved by the story.

Although Racal couldn’t attend TIFF due to her series Incognito filming in Italy, she expressed gratitude towards her production team for attempting to adjust her schedule. Alongside Racal, Sunshine stars Jennica Garcia, Elijah Canlas, Xyriel Manabat, and Meryll Soriano.
