Basketball star and San Juan City councilor James Yap shared that he has not seen his son, Bimby Aquino-Yap, in a decade. Yap made the admission while speaking to reporters during the filing of his candidacy for re-election, but he declined to elaborate on their estranged relationship.
Yap and Bimby, who is the son of Kris Aquino, lost contact after Bimby and his mother moved to California for her medical treatment. Yap mentioned that their communication ceased entirely about ten years ago, adding, “It’s been 10 years, but that’s okay.”
In 2023, Yap briefly reconnected with Bimby after eight years apart, describing it as the “best Father’s Day gift ever.” Kris Aquino confirmed this, sharing that she encouraged Bimby to rebuild the relationship with his father.
Yap and Aquino were married in 2005, welcomed Bimby in 2007, and separated in 2010, with their marriage annulled in 2012. Aquino has since returned to the Philippines after receiving medical treatment in the U.S., while Yap is now with Michela Cazzola, with whom he has two other children
