Coldplay Announces 12th Album Will Be Their Final Release

Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin has revealed that the band’s upcoming 12th album will be their last. In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, which was first shared on People, Martin confirmed that Coldplay plans to cap their discography at 12 albums.

“We’ve always aimed to release only 12 proper albums,” Martin explained. He added that this decision is inspired by their musical heroes, noting, “There are only 12 and a half Beatles albums, and about the same for Bob Marley.”

Martin emphasized that this limit pushes the band to maintain high standards: “The quality control is at an all-time high, and for a song to make it, it’s almost impossible—which is great.”

Ahead of this final release, Coldplay is set to drop their 10th album, Moon Music, on October 4. The band’s current lineup includes Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, Will Champion, and Phil Harvey.

While their 12th album will mark the end of their formal discography, Martin hinted that they may still work on side projects or compilations in the future.

Martin also reflected on the band’s joy at this stage in their career, saying, “We love it more than ever because of everything we’ve been through—COVID, growing older, and seeing how lucky we are.”

Coldplay is known for timeless hits such as “Viva La Vida,” “Yellow,” and “Fix You.” Earlier this year, the band performed for two nights in the Philippines.
