GENERAL LUNA, Siargao Island — Local authorities in the Philippines’ premier surfing destination have issued a stern reminder to all visitors: respect local laws and customs, or face the consequences.
The warning, issued by the local government of General Luna on Friday evening, April 10, 2026, comes amid growing concerns over reported misconduct and disorderly behavior within the island’s top tourism hubs.
The official notice follows a reported altercation at the Siargao Beach Club (SBC) bar on Thursday.
- Rapid Response: Municipal police reported that the situation involved two parties but was “promptly addressed” by responding officers and the establishment’s management.
- Intervention: While no major injuries were reported, police reminded those involved to observe appropriate public behavior. Authorities emphasized that such incidents, if left unchecked, could escalate and tarnish the island’s reputation for hospitality.
The General Luna local government underscored that while the town remains open and welcoming to domestic and international travelers, it will not tolerate activities that disrupt the community.
- Prohibited Acts: Officials specifically highlighted disorderly conduct, environmental damage, illegal activities, and disrespect toward local residents.
- Potential Penalties: Tourists found in violation of local regulations may face heavy fines, legal action, or, in the case of foreign nationals, deportation.
“We are proud to share our beautiful islands, culture, and hospitality,” the official statement read. “However, all tourists are expected to respect local laws, customs, and communities at all times.”
The municipal government is urging residents and business owners to report any incidents of misconduct immediately via emergency police hotlines. Visitors are likewise encouraged to practice “responsible tourism” to ensure the sustainability and safety of Siargao’s vibrant travel industry.
