9,000 Cops Deployed Across Central Luzon to Secure Lenten Season Travels

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — To ensure a peaceful and orderly observance of the Lenten season, the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) has announced the massive deployment of over 9,000 police personnel across Central Luzon.

The strategic rollout is part of “Ligtas Sumvac 2026,” a comprehensive security plan designed to manage the heavy influx of travelers, pilgrims, and tourists expected to move through the region’s provinces during the Holy Week break.

PRO3 Director Brigadier General Valeriano De Leon confirmed that the deployment covers key areas of concern, including major highways like the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), as well as popular religious sites, transport terminals, and beach resorts.

“Our goal is maximum police presence,” De Leon stated. “We want the public to feel safe and secure whether they are attending church services or traveling to their hometowns. Our personnel will be visible on the streets and in established Police Assistance Desks (PADs) to provide immediate help.”

Of the total force, approximately 3,000 officers will be directly assigned to secure places of worship and pilgrimage sites, while the remaining personnel will manage traffic flow and conduct intensified checkpoints and patrols in residential areas to prevent crimes like theft while families are away.

The regional police are also coordinating closely with local government units (LGUs) and volunteer groups to augment the security force. Canine units and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams have also been placed on standby in high-traffic areas such as malls and bus stations.

Authorities are reminding the public to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols. Travelers are advised to double-check their vehicles before long trips and ensure their homes are properly locked and secured before heading out for the long weekend.

With millions expected to traverse Central Luzon—the gateway to the north—the police force remains on “full alert” status until the conclusion of the Lenten festivities.
