The transport regulator said a total of 1,297 buses nationwide were authorized to provide additional trips to accommodate the expected surge of travelers heading to provinces and tourist destinations during the religious holiday.
The special permits will allow bus operators to run extra units beyond their regular routes and schedules, ensuring that commuters will have more transportation options during one of the busiest travel periods of the year. Authorities expect thousands of Filipinos to travel to their hometowns to observe Holy Week traditions or spend the long break with family.
According to the LTFRB, only buses that passed roadworthiness inspections and complied with safety requirements were granted permits. The agency emphasized that passenger safety remains a top priority while accommodating the increased travel demand.
The LTFRB also reminded bus operators to strictly follow fare rules, avoid overloading passengers, and ensure that drivers are well-rested before trips. Terminals and transport hubs across the country are expected to see heavier passenger traffic as the Holy Week break approaches.
Authorities are coordinating with other government agencies to monitor operations at bus terminals and major highways to help ensure smooth and safe travel for the public.
