VP Sara Duterte Says She’s Ready to Answer Impeachment Raps in Proper Forum, Lawyer Says

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte’s legal team says she is prepared to answer the impeachment complaints filed against her, but insists that any response should take place in the appropriate constitutional forum.

In a statement, Duterte’s counsel stressed that the vice president is ready to face the allegations brought before the House of Representatives’ justice committee, but emphasized that her legal rights and options for challenges and objections will be preserved throughout the process.

The impeachment complaints were filed in early February 2026, with two of the petitions subsequently ruled “sufficient in substance” by the House Committee on Justice, allowing the proceedings to advance toward a hearing proper.

Duterte’s lawyers have argued that some aspects of the complaints are exaggerated or lack proof, while still affirming the vice president’s willingness to address the matters once the proper legal procedures are observed.

This comes amid broader developments in the impeachment process, which has seen earlier complaints against Duterte—including on alleged misuse of confidential funds—move along procedural steps in the House.

Supporters of the complaints say the vice president should answer the accusations directly, while Duterte’s camp maintains that procedural rights must be upheld as the case unfolds.
