
TAGO, SURIGAO DEL SUR — Personnel from the Tago Municipal Police Station have been commended for their quick thinking and life-saving assistance after helping a woman give birth inside a patrol car while rushing her to the hospital.
Key Details of the Incident:
- The Encounter: At around 2:45 p.m. last Friday, Corporals Kietch Patrick D. Pontilan and Jonalyn E. Paler were on a routine mobile patrol when they came across a tricycle carrying a woman, 23-year-old Jolina Arangal, who was already in active labor.
- Emergency Transport: Recognizing the urgency, the officers immediately transferred Arangal to their patrol vehicle to rush her to the Adela Serra Ty Memorial Medical Center in Tandag City.
- The Delivery: While en route, Arangal’s labor progressed so rapidly that she had to deliver the baby inside the vehicle. Corporal Paler took charge and assisted in the emergency childbirth.
- Outcome: Both mother and her newborn—Arangal’s third child—arrived safely at the medical facility and were reported to be in stable condition following post-delivery care.
Commendation:
Capt. Romer Acos, acting chief of the Tago police, praised the officers for going beyond their law enforcement duties. He noted that their swift response and commitment to public service were instrumental in ensuring the safety of both mother and child.
