Marcos Urges Unity and Faith as Philippines Observes Ramadan

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. joined the Muslim community in the Philippines and around the world in observing the holy month of Ramadan, calling for a period of profound spiritual growth, compassion, and national unity.

In his official message, the President emphasized that Ramadan is not only a time for fasting and prayer but also a crucial season for self-reflection and strengthening the bonds of brotherhood. He noted that the discipline and devotion shown by Muslim Filipinos serve as an inspiration for the entire nation.

“As our Muslim brothers and sisters embark on this sacred journey of faith, let us all take this opportunity to foster a culture of peace and understanding,” Marcos said. “May the lessons of sacrifice and charity during this holy month remind us of our shared responsibility to uplift the lives of our fellow citizens, especially those in need.”

Key Themes of the President’s Message:

  • A Call for Peace: Marcos highlighted the importance of interfaith dialogue and mutual respect as foundations for a stable and prosperous country.
  • Government Support: He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to the development of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and the protection of the rights of all religious minorities.
  • Spirit of Generosity: The President encouraged Filipinos of all faiths to emulate the spirit of Zakat (charity), urging them to extend a helping hand to the marginalized sectors of society.
  • National Healing: Marcos expressed hope that the spiritual significance of Ramadan would lead to a “healing of wounds” and a more unified path forward for the Philippines.

Malacañang also noted that the government has coordinated with various agencies to ensure the peaceful and orderly conduct of religious activities throughout the month. The message concludes with a wish for a “blessed and meaningful Ramadan” for the entire Ummah.
