Manila Water Foundation Expands WASH Program Reach in 2025; Initiative Benefits Over 1.4 Million Filipinos Through Clean Water and Sanitation Projects

The foundation’s annual accomplishment report highlights a strategic shift toward climate-resilient water systems and enhanced sanitation facilities for marginalized communities.

Key Achievements in 2025 The MWF’s multi-pronged approach addressed critical gaps in hygiene and water access:

  • “Lingap” Schools & Markets: The foundation installed 125 new handwashing facilities in public schools and markets, promoting hygiene behavior to curb the spread of communicable diseases.
  • WASH for Communities: Clean water systems were established in 45 remote sites, including indigenous communities in Rizal and Quezon, benefiting thousands who previously lacked access to potable water.
  • Sanitation Breakthroughs: Under the “WASH in Health Facilities” initiative, the foundation refurbished sanitation blocks in 15 public hospitals and community health centers.

Innovation and Sustainability A significant highlight of the 2025 program was the integration of sustainable technologies:

  • Solar-Powered Water Systems: MWF successfully deployed solar-powered pumping stations in off-grid areas, ensuring a continuous water supply while reducing operational costs for local cooperatives.
  • WASH for Peace: In collaboration with the government, the foundation expanded its reach into the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), providing critical water infrastructure to schools in formerly conflict-affected areas.

A Decade of Impact The 2025 results mark a decade of intensified WASH advocacy. Since its inception, the foundation has evolved from providing immediate relief to building long-term community resilience.

  • Executive Statement: “Our mission goes beyond just pipes and faucets; it is about dignity and health,” said MWF Executive Director Jeric Sevilla. He emphasized that the foundation’s goal for 2026 is to reach an additional 200 “WASH-less” barangays nationwide.

Collaboration and Support The success of the 2025 expansion was attributed to strong partnerships with the Department of Education (DepEd), the Department of Health (DOH), and various private sector allies. The foundation also played a key role in providing mobile water treatment units during the recent onslaught of Tropical Depression Basyang, serving as a critical partner in disaster response.

As the Manila Water Foundation looks toward the rest of 2026, it remains focused on its “WASH for All” roadmap, aiming to bridge the remaining gaps in the country’s water and sanitation targets under the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
