Philippines Health Department Reports 235 Fireworks Injuries Over Holiday Period

The Department of Health reported that from December 21, 2025 to early January 1, 2026, a total of 235 people nationwide suffered injuries related to fireworks incidents. This figure, compiled from reports submitted by 62 DOH-monitored hospitals, reflects a significant decrease compared with the same holiday period last year.

Data show that a substantial portion of those injured were young people aged 19 and under, indicating continued safety concerns for minors during festive activities. The highest number of cases occurred on New Year’s Eve itself, when 62 injuries were logged during celebrations. Health officials noted that a final tally is expected in the first week of January as additional reports are submitted.

DOH authorities continue to emphasize the dangers of fireworks and encourage families to seek medical advice promptly for any injury, regardless of severity, to prevent complications such as tetanus. The department’s holiday injury surveillance underscores the ongoing public health challenge of reducing harm from firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices during peak celebration periods. Continued public education and enforcement of safety regulations remain key priorities for reducing these preventable injuries.
