Philippines Warns China’s Actions Near Taiwan Undermine Regional Peace and Stability

The Philippines’ Department of National Defense (DND) has expressed serious concern over China’s recent military and coast guard activities in areas surrounding Taiwan, warning that such actions pose a threat to peace and stability in the region. Defense officials said the continued presence and movement of Chinese vessels and aircraft increase the risk of tension and miscalculation in an already sensitive geopolitical environment.

According to the DND, developments near Taiwan have wider implications beyond cross-strait relations, as they affect the overall security situation in the Indo-Pacific. The Philippines emphasized that any escalation could disrupt vital sea lanes used for international trade and energy transport, potentially impacting economies across Asia.

Security analysts note that Manila’s position mirrors growing unease among neighboring countries over China’s expanding military footprint and assertive posture in contested areas. The situation has drawn increased attention from regional partners, with many calling for restraint, adherence to international law, and peaceful dialogue to prevent further instability.

The Philippine government reiterated its support for diplomatic solutions and respect for the rules-based international order, while remaining vigilant in monitoring regional developments. Officials stressed that maintaining peace in the Taiwan area is essential not only for regional security but also for global economic stability.
