MANILA – A greater number of Filipinos are expecting a “happy Christmas” this 2025 compared to last year, according to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey released on December 24, 2025. The poll found 85% of adult respondents anticipating a merry holiday season, up from 82% in 2024 and marking the highest level since the pre-pandemic peak of 89% in 2019.
The nationwide survey, conducted December 12-18, 2025, revealed:
- 85% expect a happy Christmas (46% “very happy,” 39% “somewhat happy”).
- 12% anticipate a sad one.
- 3% are undecided.
Net happiness (“happy” minus “sad”) stood at +73, classified by SWS as “excellent”—the best since +78 in 2019.
Regional and Socioeconomic Breakdown
Optimism was widespread but varied:
- Highest: Mindanao at 92% (up from 88%).
- Visayas: 87%.
- Balance Luzon: 84%.
- Metro Manila: 76% (lowest but improved from 71%).
By class:
- Class ABC: 88%.
- Class D: 85%.
- Class E: 83%.
The rise is attributed to resilient remittances, holiday bonuses, lower inflation (~2%), and post-typhoon recovery efforts boosting spirits despite economic pressures.
SWS President Mahar Mangahas noted the trend reflects “Filipino resilience and the enduring Christmas spirit,” even amid challenges like job worries and governance issues.
As families gather for Noche Buena tonight, this surge in holiday cheer underscores a timeless truth: For Pinoys, Christmas joy often transcends circumstances—rooted in faith, family, and hope.
