MANILA – The northeast monsoon (amihan) has strengthened again on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, bringing cooler temperatures, cloudy skies, and light rains to Metro Manila and much of Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported. While the rest of the country enjoys generally fair holiday weather, the amihan’s resurgence adds a chilly touch to morning masses and family gatherings in the north.
PAGASA’s latest advisory details:
- Metro Manila & Central Luzon: Cloudy skies with isolated light rains; morning lows around 22-24°C.
- Northern Luzon (Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera): Cloudy with light to moderate rains; Baguio dipping to 14-20°C.
- Rest of Luzon: Partly cloudy to cloudy with possible isolated showers.
- Visayas & Mindanao: Fair weather prevailing, with isolated thunderstorms possible in the afternoon/evening due to easterlies.
No gale warnings are in effect, but moderate seas along northern and eastern coasts warrant caution for small vessels.
This amihan surge—typical for late December—enhances the holiday “cool” vibe: Perfect for hot tsokolate after Simbang Gabi, foggy Tagaytay drives, or extra blankets during Noche Buena. PAGASA forecasts the chill to persist into the weekend, potentially peaking in early January.
Stay warm, dry, and joyful—Merry Christmas!
