Former Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Leal Guo — also known as Guo Hua Ping — has been sentenced to life imprisonment after a Pasig trial court found her guilty of qualified human trafficking.
Guo was one of eight defendants convicted in connection with human trafficking activities at the Baofu compound, which was tied to a POGO (Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator) hub. The court also ordered each convict to pay a P2 million fine, in addition to reparations for the victims.
As part of the verdict, the Baofu compound — consisting of office buildings, residential villas, and other facilities — was forfeited to the government. The court also revoked the registration of companies associated with the complex, including Baofu Land Development Inc., Hongsheng Gaming Technology Inc., and Zun Yuan Technology Inc.
Guo, who attended the ruling via video conference, will be transferred from her current detention facility to the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong.
Her conviction is viewed as a significant victory in the fight against syndicates linked to offshore gaming operations and the exploitation of foreign workers.
