Twin Complaints Filed Over Reclamation Works Near Resort in Bohol

Two separate formal complaints have been filed concerning large-scale reclamation activities adjacent to a resort in Bohol’s tourism corridor. One complaint asserts that the reclamation work was carried out without the required environmental clearances and proper community consultation. The second alleges that the activities have led to coastal erosion, altered marine habitats, and disrupted the livelihoods of nearby fishers.

The reclamation covers significant hectares of foreshore land and back‑fill into marine waters, raising concerns about compliance with permits, the legality of land‑use change, and implications for marine biodiversity protection. Local advocacy groups say that nearby mangrove areas were affected and that wave patterns have shifted, increasing erosion in adjacent areas.

Regional government officials are now reviewing the complaints to determine whether the project holds valid environmental impact statements, permits from the national reclamation authority, and whether the local government conducted the necessary public‑consultation process. If violations are found, possible consequences include stop‑work orders, restoration requirements, and penalties for the developer.
