Western Visayas on Alert: Around 2.3 Million Residents at Risk from Incoming Storm “Tropical Storm Tino”

The region of Western Visayas is being put on high alert as tropical storm Tino approaches, with authorities warning that about 2.3 million residents are at risk. Residents in coastal, low-lying and flood-prone areas have been urged to prepare for heavy rains, strong winds and the possibility of storm surges.

Local governments across provinces such as Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan and Negros Occidental have suspended face-to-face classes and activated disaster risk-reduction offices.
The national weather bureau PAGASA has issued storm-surge warnings for the region, estimating sea-level rises of 1-2 metres in parts of Western Visayas.
Residents are being advised to secure their homes, pack emergency supplies, avoid marine activities and be ready to evacuate if necessary. Local disaster management teams are coordinating with barangays to monitor vulnerable zones and prepare shelters.
