MANILA — Authorities are reassuring the public that the violent clashes seen during the September 21 protests won’t happen again, as they call on demonstrators to keep things calm and orderly.
In a recent statement, government officials emphasized their commitment to preventing any escalation similar to the riots that marked the anniversary of martial law declarations. “We are prepared and will ensure public safety without repeating past mistakes,” a spokesperson said.
The appeal comes ahead of planned rallies, where organizers have been reminded to follow legal guidelines. Police have deployed additional personnel but stressed that force will only be used as a last resort if provocations arise.
Critics, however, question whether enough has been done to address underlying grievances fueling the unrest. Protest leaders maintain their actions will remain non-violent, focusing on peaceful assembly to voice dissent.
As tensions simmer, both sides are under scrutiny to avoid a breakdown in dialogue that could spark wider conflict.
