Hontiveros and Gatchalian Welcome Passage of Anti-POGO Act to End Offshore Gaming

Senators Risa Hontiveros and Sherwin Gatchalian have voiced strong support for the newly enacted Anti‑POGO Act of 2025, a law that formally bans offshore gaming operations (POGOs) in the Philippines.

Hontiveros expressed her relief and satisfaction, saying that the measure addresses the surge in crime, exploitation, and social problems tied to POGO-related operations.

Meanwhile, Gatchalian described the law as the “people’s demand to end the POGO menace,” noting that the legislation is not just symbolic but aims to close loopholes and provide strong enforcement.

Under the law, conducting or facilitating offshore gaming, leasing property for POGO use, and offering services to POGO operators are now prohibited. It also revokes all licences previously held by such operations and holds them liable for outstanding taxes, duties and penalties.

The senators emphasise that aside from banning the operations, the Act includes provisions to assist Filipino workers who may be affected by the closure of POGO hubs — including skilling, job facilitation and other transition programs.
