The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), operating in Central Mindanao, has reported a major weapons-seizure milestone: over 1,400 assorted high-powered firearms recovered since the intensified operations began more than a year ago.
These recoveries underscore the ongoing drive by the Army in the region to neutralise illegal armed groups and disrupt their supply chains. The focus has been especially strong in provinces such as Maguindanao del Norte and surrounding areas, where security operations remain a key priority.
Officials say the substantial haul of firearms is a sign that the intensified military strategy is bearing fruit. However, they also caution that while the numbers are encouraging, maintaining stability and reducing violence will require sustained effort, collaboration with local communities, and complementary initiatives beyond purely military action.
The Army emphasises that these operations are part of a broader security campaign: diminishing the firepower of insurgent and militant elements, improving civilian safety, and creating conditions that encourage development and peace in historically restive zones.
