SEC retracts ₱1.7‑trillion loss claim; flood‑control scandal still spooks investors

The Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission admitted that its earlier claim of a ₱1.7‑trillion market loss from corruption in flood‑control projects was based on a fictitious report .  Still, investor groups warned that the real market dip (around ₱186 billion) and the scandal’s reputational damage could deter foreign investment.  Business leaders urged government to prosecute perpetrators and strengthen oversight .
