Dingdong Dantes Named Ambassador of ‘Panatag Pilipinas’ Disaster Preparedness Campaign

Actor Dingdong Dantes has been appointed ambassador of “Panatag Pilipinas,” a nationwide disaster risk communication campaign launched by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) to strengthen Filipinos’ awareness and preparedness in times of calamities.

As reported by Athena Imperial on 24 Oras, the Philippines’ location in the Pacific Ring of Fire makes it prone to earthquakes, typhoons, and volcanic eruptions. To address this vulnerability, the OCD rolled out a Risk Communication Advocacy initiative aimed at informing the public through accessible and engaging content.

Originally launched online, the campaign will now expand its reach by airing in cinemas and public areas like transportation terminals. OCD Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV emphasized the importance of using these spaces to effectively deliver disaster preparedness messages.

Dingdong Dantes expressed appreciation for the campaign’s approach. “I like that this has become a multimedia effort—accessible, relatable, and not intimidating,” he said during the launch.

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato Solidum also highlighted the power of practical science in preparedness, noting that real impact comes from applying knowledge effectively.

Meanwhile, Defense Undersecretary Irineo Espino stressed that safety habits must become second nature for Filipinos: “Our message is clear—Filipinos know what to do to stay safe during disasters. Preparedness should begin before the disaster strikes.”
