Freddie Aguilar’s Partner Jovie Albao Bids Tearful Goodbye After Singer’s Death

Jovie Albao, the longtime partner of legendary Filipino folk singer Freddie Aguilar, mourned his passing on Tuesday, May 27, with an emotional tribute on social media.

In a Facebook post, Albao shared a touching photo of the couple embracing, vowing to live a righteous life so they can reunite in the afterlife. “This is not goodbye, just farewell for now… I love you so much,” she wrote, also referencing Islamic prayers in her farewell message.

Aguilar, who died at 72 from multiple organ failure, was laid to rest less than a day after his death following Islamic burial customs. In 2013, he had converted to Islam to marry Albao, then 16, a relationship that sparked widespread controversy.

Throughout Aguilar’s final days, Albao regularly posted about staying strong amid hardship and expressed gratitude to those offering support.

Aguilar is best remembered for his timeless hit “Anak,” which gained international acclaim, along with other socially resonant songs like “Katarungan,” “Magdalena,” and “Mindanao.” His signature style—long hair, cowboy hats, and clear glasses—cemented his place as a cultural icon in the Philippines.
