KUALA LUMPUR — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has confirmed that he has selected the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), but he’s not revealing the name just yet.
Speaking to the Philippine media delegation during the 46th ASEAN Summit, Marcos said he prefers to personally inform his chosen officer before making any public announcement.
“Whoever it is should hear about it first from me, not through the news,” he stated, adding, “Yes, we’re very clear on what we are going to do next.”
When asked about his expectations for the next PNP leader, Marcos said his appointee is a senior officer who already understands the current law enforcement landscape. He noted that his directive will be straightforward: “Carry on what you are doing.”
The President also reiterated his push for stronger police presence across the country.
The current PNP chief, Police General Rommel Marbil, is set to retire on June 7 after receiving a four-month extension beyond the mandatory retirement age of 56 due to the election season
