Eala, Gauff Advance to Italian Open Quarters, Face Reigning Champs Paolini and Errani

Alex Eala and Coco Gauff continued their strong run at the 2025 Italian Open, defeating Italy’s Tyra Caterina Grant and Lisa Pigato in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, to advance to the quarterfinals of the women’s doubles tournament.

The 19-year-old Eala and 21-year-old Gauff showed poise and power, breaking early in the match and fending off a brief challenge in the second set to secure the win. Their consistency and chemistry proved too much for the home favorites, who failed to sustain their early momentum.

Next, the Filipina-American duo will face a tough test against defending champions Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, Italy’s top-ranked pair. Paolini and Errani, the tournament’s third seeds, won last year’s title by defeating Gauff—then partnered with Erin Routliffe—in the finals.

With their eyes on redemption and a shot at the title, Eala and Gauff are poised for a high-stakes showdown.
