
Ian de Leon has clarified public speculation surrounding the passing of his mother, National Artist and film icon Nora Aunor. In a press conference held Thursday, Ian addressed whether his mother passed away during a recent medical procedure.
“She did not,” Ian said. “She underwent surgery, but afterward, she experienced breathing difficulties. Things declined from there, leading to the need for another procedure.”
He also delivered the family’s official statement confirming Nora Aunor’s death on April 16 at the age of 71. “It is with deepest sorrow that we confirm the passing of our beloved mother, Nora Aunor… She passed away peacefully, surrounded by those who love her the most.”
Ian paid tribute to his mother’s immeasurable impact on Philippine entertainment:
“From a very young age, our mom captivated hearts with her talent and grace, and unmatched voice… Her legacy will live on in every performance, every melody, and every person she inspired.”
Nora Aunor was named a National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts in 2022 and is celebrated for her legendary roles in Himala, Bona, and Minsa’y Isang Gamu-gamo. Her recent works include Mananambal with Bianca Umali and Pieta alongside Alfred Vargas.
