Single Mom of Six Killed by Runaway SUV Driven by Security Guard in Makati

A single mother of six tragically lost her life, and five others were injured, after a speeding SUV plowed through pedestrians in Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati City.

According to a report on 24 Oras by Jonathan Andal, the victim was walking home when she was struck by the SUV, driven by a 60-year-old security guard. CCTV footage from the Makati Police showed the woman being hit and thrown onto the hood of the vehicle, which also sideswiped several others before crashing into a steel railing.

Police suspect the guard, who lacked experience with automatic transmission vehicles, lost control of the SUV. The vehicle’s owner, Bryan Dominic Guzman Jayamaha, said the guard took the wheel despite being advised not to move the car.

Jayamaha shared that his mother, seated in the back, had asked the guard to wait for him instead. “He insisted he knew how to drive,” he said. “By the time I tried to stop him, it was too late.”

Police Captain Milfred Kamir Kayat confirmed that the guard had been instructed to move any vehicles blocking the entrance of the establishment, but likely misunderstood the SUV’s mechanics. “He said the car accelerated when he released the handbrake lever, not realizing it was already in drive,” Kayat explained.

The driver has been detained at the Makati Police Station and now faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple injuries, and property damage. The guard reportedly expressed deep remorse for his actions, saying he believed he could handle the vehicle but ultimately couldn’t.
