Sunshine Cruz Reveals Myasthenia Gravis Diagnosis, Urges Moms and Gen Xers to Keep Chasing Dreams

Sunshine Cruz has revealed her diagnosis with myasthenia gravis, a rare autoimmune disorder that affects muscle strength, shortly after gracing the runway at the “Body of Work” fashion show.

The actress shared the news on Instagram on Sunday, March 23, saying the condition has made it difficult for her to build muscle. Despite the challenge, she expressed gratitude for the strength she’s found during her journey. “It’s been a real roller-coaster these past months… but I’m so thankful for the strength I’ve found,” she wrote, tagging her fitness coach.

Myasthenia gravis, as defined by Johns Hopkins Medicine, is a disorder where antibodies block communication between nerve and muscle cells. It often leads to weakness in the limbs and muscles controlling the eyes, mouth, and throat.

Cruz used her participation in the fashion event as an empowering moment, encouraging fellow mothers and Gen Xers to continue pursuing their dreams no matter the obstacles. “Walking for [the brand] was a powerful reminder of what’s possible even when things are tough,” she said. “To all my fellow moms and Gen Xers, never give up on your dreams.”

She received an outpouring of love and support from her daughters Angelina, Sam, and Angel Francheska, along with celebrity friends including Vina Morales, Rufa Mae Quinto, Tracy Maureen Perez, and Donita Rose.

Sunshine and her daughter Angelina were among the many stars who walked the runway at the high-profile fashion show held at the Mall of Asia Arena on March 21.
