MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Sara Duterte has called on Filipinos to vote wisely in the upcoming May 2025 midterm elections, urging them to assess candidates based on their accomplishments and plans, rather than their family background.
“Ngayong halalan, pakinggan natin ang mga pangako ng mga pulitiko, tingnan natin ang nagawa nila noon, ano ang kapasidad, ano ang abilidad,” Duterte said.
(“This election, listen to the promises of politicians, examine their past achievements, their capabilities, and their abilities.”)
She also stressed that voters should not support candidates simply because they carry the Duterte name or are related to former President Rodrigo Duterte, who currently chairs PDP-Laban.
Duterte made the statement following her endorsement of PDP-Laban’s senatorial slate during the party’s campaign launch on February 13. She encouraged Filipinos to use their votes to bring positive change by electing leaders who are trustworthy and dedicated to public service.
Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) reported that 4.8 million ballots—or 69% of the total—have already been printed for Election Day on May 12. Data also revealed that millennials make up 33.74% of the total registered voters.
