Filipino comedy icon Matutina, known for her role in the classic sitcom John en Marsha, has passed away at the age of 78.
Her daughter, Shiela Guerrero, confirmed the news, stating that Matutina passed away on the morning of February 14, 2025.
According to her medical certificate, the immediate cause of death was Acute Respiratory Failure due to Volume Fluid Overload, linked to Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease caused by Hypertensive Nephrosclerosis. The underlying cause was Hypertensive Cardiovascular Disease.
Born Evelyn Bontogon-Guerrero on July 10, 1946, Matutina gained widespread recognition in the 1970s for her role as Donya Delilah’s house helper in John en Marsha, alongside Dolphy and Nida Blanca.
Her legacy remains a significant part of Philippine television history, bringing laughter to generations of Filipino viewers.
