Escudero on P200 Wage Hike: Senate, House to Work Together for Approval

MANILA – Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero assured the public on Thursday that the Senate will collaborate with the House of Representatives to pass the proposed P200 across-the-board daily wage hike for private sector workers.

Escudero welcomed the House Committee on Labor and Employment’s recent approval of the P200 wage hike, which surpasses the P100 increase approved by the Senate in March 2024.

“Although we only have nine session days left, I welcome the openness of the House to passing this Senate-initiated measure,” Escudero stated, adding, “I look forward to working with them on this.”

Tight Timeline for Approval

With Congress set to adjourn on February 7 for the May 2025 elections, lawmakers must approve the bill on second and third reading before reconciling differences between the House and Senate versions. If certified urgent by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the House can fast-track its approval in a single day.

The last legislated wage hike was in 1989 under President Corazon Aquino, making this a historic move for labor rights.
