Maris Racal’s Film “Sunshine” Selected for Berlinale 2025

Actress and singer Maris Racal has expressed her gratitude as her film “Sunshine” is set to compete at the prestigious 75th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) under the Generation 14plus category.

Racal took to Instagram on Wednesday, January 22, to share her excitement, posting behind-the-scenes photos of herself preparing for the film.

Bringing Sunshine to Berlinale 2025. Grateful for this incredible journey and the chance to share our story on such a prestigious stage,” Racal wrote.

A Story of Choices and Sacrifices

Directed by Antoinette Jadaone, Sunshine tells the poignant story of a rhythmic gymnast, played by Racal, who discovers she’s pregnant during a crucial period in her training. The film follows her emotional journey as she wrestles with the decision of whether to continue her pregnancy or pursue her dreams of making it to the national team.

The film also stars Elijah Canlas, Xyriel Manabat, Annika Co, and Jennica Garcia. It was produced by Project 8 Projects, which announced its Berlinale entry earlier this month.

Competing on a Global Stage

The Berlinale, set to take place from February 13 to 23 in Germany, will feature Sunshine in the Generation 14plus Competition, alongside films from countries like Brazil, the United Kingdom, Greece, Canada, and Egypt.

Racal’s movie will be up against notable entries such as:

  • “Barbed Wire” (Brazil)
  • “Christy” (United Kingdom and Ireland)
  • “Our Wildest Days” (Greece and France)
  • “Village Rockstars 2” (India and Singapore)

Short films in the same category include “Beneath Which Rivers Flow” (Iraq), “Don’t Wake the Sleeping Child” (Senegal, France, and Morocco), and “The Mud Under My Window” (France and Belgium).

Fans and Supporters Celebrate

Racal’s followers, including celebrities and fans, have showered her with support, calling her one of the “best young actresses” of her generation.

As Sunshine prepares for its European premiere, Racal’s performance and the film’s heartfelt narrative promise to captivate an international audience.
