Film director Darryl Yap shared new details about his upcoming movie on the late actress Pepsi Paloma, highlighting her close friendship with veteran actress Charito Solis during Paloma’s brief showbiz career.
On Facebook, Yap posted a sepia-toned photo of Solis and Paloma sharing a light moment, calling their bond more than just a professional relationship.
“Charito was Pepsi’s pillar of strength during her struggles in showbiz,” Yap wrote. “We all need a Charito Solis in our lives.”
Friendship Beyond Showbiz
Yap also claimed that Solis and actress Jaclyn Jose went to the morgue upon hearing of Paloma’s death in 1985. Despite a falling out years prior, Solis reportedly claimed Paloma’s body and arranged her funeral.
“Charito Solis ensured Pepsi had a proper burial,” Yap stated. “Even if they had unresolved issues, Charito stepped in when Pepsi needed her most.”
Controversial Movie Details
Yap’s film, The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma, is set for a February release but has already sparked controversy. The movie includes a confrontation scene where lead star Rhed Bustamante (as Paloma) accuses actor-host Vic Sotto of rape, a claim he has denied.
Vic Sotto has filed a habeas data petition and 19 counts of cyberlibel against Yap to prevent the use of his name or likeness in the film. Yap argued that the movie is based on Paloma’s life story and is not defamatory.
The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has not yet received the film for review, casting doubt on its announced release date.
